In 2000's our band was just a Sunday morning softball team (SMOGAS) with some great musicians who liked to jam at our team burn pits at Rick Ambrose's back yard. In 2010 our 3rd baseman Pat Micinilio asked us to play his 40th birthday party, shit got real and we needed to pull together a full band and practice. Jack, Andy, Chuck, Chad and Steve Werner (original bass player were already on the team. Andy got his brother Pat (original drummer) to play the party and the C-Sides were born.
The next softball season saw the SMOGAS win the championship of the Sunday morning Trumbull league. Our sponsor THE O-BAR asked us to perform our first gig to celebrate. About 200 friends came out that night and we were off and running.
In the years that followed we started playing monthly in local bars and parties. The more we practice and played the tighter we got as a group. Friends would come down to check us out here and there but when strangers would come back to see us over and over, we knew we had a decent thing going. By 2017 we were playing about 20 gigs a year.
Covid slowed us down but we picked up where we left off in 2021.
In mid-2021 Pat left for Florida to be closer to his elderly parents. At that time Steve also decided to pursue other musical interests. Losing our rhythm section all at once wasn't easy but Chuck & Andy had a friend from high school Al Rich who took over smashingly as our new drummer. We played a few gigs with Andy's talented young cousin Mr. James Rafferty on bass. Until another friend from High School Mike Bassick moved into town and fit the band like a glove.
The 'new look' C-Sides were reinvigorated to play, catching up from missing out on 2020. In 2022 we ramped it up to over 40 performances at places like the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater, Two Roads, The Gaelic American Club (GAC), The Windmill, Joey C's, many private parties and expanding into The Valley where Al was residing at the time. 2023 and 2024 have continued to be busy years with new venues and fans along the way.
Our favorite day being the Black Rock Porchfest where Scott & Laura Hurwitz have had us perform for the past 6 years or so. Check out the clip of Runaround to get a glimpse of the party atmosphere.
The C-Sides are marching on into 2025. Come check us out.
